Breed organizations educate breeders of Golden Retrievers on the breed and warn prospective owners against the wrong choice of the breed. Thus, the Golden Retriever Club of America publishes educational materials that include booklets intended to inform prospective owners on the aspects of the breed's personality and traits. It may be that the Golden Retriever is the wrong choice for people who have not enough time for their pets and those who are not ready to care for the dog.

The Golden Retriever makes a wonderful companion for people of all ages. It is often referred to as a family dog. It does well with children and other pets and is a favorite of the entire family. Golden Retrievers are working dogs. They need a lot of training and exercise. In fact, the Golden Retriever is happiest when it is involved in activities such as hunting, retrieving, and showing.

To shine with beauty, the Golden Retriever should be groomed much. Grooming includes regular washing and brushing. Golden Retrievers are excellent swimmers. They cannot stand the temptation to rush into water. Needless to say, after a day rich in vigorous play, the Golden Retriever's coat leaves much to be desired. The dog's long coat needs much brushing. This is not what most people find exiting. Therefore, they should study the requirements of the breed and decide if it is the right breed for them.

The GRCA encourages breeders to inform buyers of the Golden Retriever on responsibilities connected with owning a dog. Health issues of the breed should not be overlooked. The Golden Retriever suffers from joint and eye problems. The breed is also susceptible to skin allergies. It is recommended to buy puppies from OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) and CERF (Canine Eye Registration Foundation) Golden Retrievers.

Golden Retrievers Puppies - Golden Retrievers are wonderful companions for the whole family. Their gentle likeable personality attracts people of all ages. Remarkable qualities, such as boldness, capacity for work and desire to please its owner, make the Golden a great hunting dog, show dog and obedience competitor. These dogs are very people-oriented. Do not fail to remember that when choosing a Golden Retriever, it will never be able to spend long hours alone in the back yard, while you are at work. Aggressiveness or hostility toward other dogs or people as well as timidity does not belong to the Golden Retriever's characteristic traits.

The Golden Retriever's friendliness is a well-known trait that will surely make it difficult to make a watchdog out of your pet. As for physical characteristics, they will do just fine for any sporting dog. Golden Retrievers weigh normally 65-75 pounds and stand around 22-24 inches. They are strong though do not look too stout. The Golden glories in its coat that may be any shade of golden brown. It goes without saying that the coat should be well looked after since Golden Retrievers can hardly live without splashing in the water and running madly in the field. Trustworthy and friendly, Golden Retrievers make wonderful family pets.

Golden Retrievers - Golden Retrievers' origin is clear from careful records made during the process of breeding. It appeared in England in the middle of the 19th century due to deliberate crossing of a yellow wavy coated retriever and a Tweed water spaniel. Lord Tweedmouth aimed at breeding a dog that could be able to swim in cold water, have a keen sense of smell and retrieve game without damaging it. The AKC registered the Golden or Yellow Retriever in 1927. Since that time the Golden became known as a great sporting dog, guide dog and a pet. In 2001, it was the second most popular breed after the Labrador Retriever according to the AKC.

The Golden is a sporting dog bred and trained to retrieve game. Its water-resistant coat allows the dog to swim in very cold water. An athletic build presupposes a hard-working dog. Its straight legs are a little bit longer than a Labrador Retriever. It stands about 22-24 inches and weighs 60 to 75 pounds. The head is broad with a straight muzzle blending into the skull. Short ears almost touch the cheek, but should not be hound-like. A dark brownish eye color is preferable. A well set on tail, which is never to curve over the back, is covered with a long coat as well as the neck, thighs and back of the legs.

Golden Retrievers Breeders - Golden Retrievers are one of the most popular dogs in the world. This breed has been created to brighten up the life of people and make the world a better place. It is amicable and has a very attractive appearance. Due to their appearance, Golden Retrievers are often filmed in ads and movies. Golden Retrievers are inborn actors.

The main beauty of the Golden Retriever is its coat. Unfortunately, the breed is not suited for people who suffer from allergy. They should choose another breed. Generally, the Golden Retriever is good for all people who have no allergy and are ready to devote much time and attention to their pets.

Golden Retrievers - Golden Retrievers are powerful, energetic dogs, and are loving and eager to please. Highly intelligent, the dog is easily trained and can serve as an ideal sportsman's dog, as a guide or service dog for handicapped, and they make excellent family pets. They are gentle and patient with children, although they can be rambunctious when young. Golden Retrievers are friendly with other dogs and other people. They do not make good guard dogs, as they rarely, if ever, attack. But, as a watchdog, they may bark loudly to signal a stranger's approach. Golden Retrievers are highly talented, some of their specialties are hunting, retrieving, narcotics detection, competitive obedience and they can even perform tricks. Also, they absolutely love to swim.

Golden Retrievers Breeders - Golden Retrievers are relatively new dogs, yet their history is very interesting especially to people who have chosen this breed as their companion or show dog. Lord Tweedmouth started to carry out breedings in 1864 and continued to perfect the breed later on in time. He strived to produce a good-looking dog that would be similar to the much-appreciated companion, a Tweed Water Spaniel. This breed is now extinct. Lord Tweedmouth bred his dog with the Irish Setter, the Black Coated retriever, and probably some other dogs.

The dogs bred by Lord Tweedmouth appeared to have good working qualities and made perfect pets. They possessed great stamina and were capable of spending long hours hunting with their owners. Besides, the new breed was playful and did well with other pets and children.

Golden Retrievers Breeders Puppies - Golden Retrievers are medium to large-sized dogs; males measuring from 23 to 24 inches at the shoulders and females are 21.5-22.5 inches. The average weight of males is 65-75 pounds; females weigh 55-65 pounds. Some individuals reach up to 26 inches at the shoulders and 105 pounds in weight. The average lifespan of this breed is 12-13 years. The breed standards are slightly different in the USA, England and Canada, so you should consult a breed club before showing your dog in other countries.

One of the main features of Golden Retrievers is their long dense coat, for which the breed got its name. The outer coat is coarse and resilient; it repels water and allows the dog to swim in the cold water. The coat may be either straight or wavy. Natural ruff around the neck, feathering on the chest, tail, underside and back of thighs is preferable. On the head, paws and front of the legs the hair is even and short.

Golden Retrievers Pictures - One of the most characteristic features of Golden Retrievers is the coat. It may be either straight, wavy or something in between. The outer coat is rather coarse and repels water; the undercoat is soft and dense. The coat is of medium length over most of the body, with longer feathering on the tail, the back of the legs and on the chest. The coat color ranges from a light gold to deep gold. The color should be rich and lustrous; lighter feathering is acceptable. Red colors, gray and white markings are unacceptable.

In Golden Retrievers over-all appearance, gait, balance and working abilities are given more emphasis than that of any other component. These dogs should be symmetrical, active, sound, powerful, not clumsy, nor too lean. Head should be broad and slightly arched. Stop should be well defined, but not too abrupt. Muzzle is straight in profile, deeper and wider at stop than at tip.
