It may be difficult for a novice buyer to recognize a responsible breeder. A buyer has to visit the kennel and ask to see both parents of the litter and the living conditions the dogs are kept in. All trustworthy breeders should be registered by the GRCA or other breed clubs and abide by their code of ethic and the AKC breed standard. Reputable kennels are usually involved in showing their dogs and have champions and titleholders. Prices don’t help with the choice of a puppy, because poor quality puppies from pet shops and backyard breeders are often sold for the same price than those bred by experienced hobby breed fanciers.
