Lord Tweedmouth bred these hounds in the 19th century. Their major aim was to retrieve waterfowl and small game from water and land. To do this the hounds should have a keen sense of smell, water-resistant coat and great endurance. These canines are large and athletic; they stand 22-24 inches at the withers and weigh 55-75 pounds, males being slightly larger than females.
